About

Carrickmacross Toy Library offers a toy lending service for families of children aged 0-8 in and within commuting distance of Carrickmacross (geographical spread includes counties Monaghan, Louth, Cavan and Meath), with the aim of reducing the consumption of toys which generate a significant amount of plastic waste which cannot be recycled. We promote play via weekly ‘stay and play’ sessions and themed play sessions both on and off-site.
We promote a zero-waste approach to parenting via monthly cloth nappy meet-ups (we are the local branch of the Cloth Nappy Library Ireland), family litter-picking in collaboration with Carrickmacross Tidy Towns, and a 1000+ member baby and child freecycle group for County Monaghan on Facebook. We have over 300 members, around half of which are currently active, i.e. avail of our services on a regular basis. This number includes schools and community groups. Our membership also includes single parent families and children with additional needs.
