Borrow Manure fork / Pitchfork

All items from Southside Tool Library

Manure forks or pitchforks are not for digging. They are for moving and turning compost. Their lighter, more widely spaced tines mean they can lift more material.

Use this for:
- Turning or aerating lightly compacted and/or still decomposing compost.
- 'Shovelling' any loose material such as grass.

* If the compost is very compacted, you might be better with a gardening / digging fork

Do not use this for:
- 'Shovelling' small items such as woodchips (a shovel is better).
- Digging / aerating soil (a fork and/or spade is what you need).

Some basic advice on when to use a fork, spade or shovel can be found here and and more detailed advice and tips on how best to use each type of fork can be found here.
